Letter to the Editor of the Wanderer

Wanderer:

I was astounded to find that, “F.A. von Hayek and Ludwig von Mises were not household names, that is, until Mitt Romney named Cong. Paul Ryan as his presidential running mate.”  (Wanderer Sept 6th).  Why on earth would that be?  Ryan’s idea of a cut, is to cut a proposed increase, and he has no cuts for our military empire.  I have been a follower of Dr. Ron Paul for six years.  I mentioned Hayek’s name in my 2008 congressional stump speech, and I have had several friends travel south to attend the Mises’s Institute.  Maybe Dr. Dougherty has her Paul’s confused?

In 2010, the Republican Liberty Caucus of Wisconsin published a detailed analysis of Paul Ryan’s voting record that would make President Obama proud. Ryan voted yes on TARP, the 2008 stimulus, the GM and Chrysler bailouts, Medicare Part D, Head Start, an extension of unemployment benefits, No Child Left Behind, and the raising of the debt ceiling.  These are hardly examples of responsible spending.

How this political creative writing merited a top page in your great paper is a mystery.  Does a higher degree in Philosophy allow someone to misrepresent two great economists?
